It Is So Amazing!

It is so amazing to talk to a child.

I just had my weekly conversation with Grace, 14 years old and a child living at the orphanage Children’s Hope home, outside Nairobi in Kenya.

Since last week she had the exercise to start to give thanks for everything in her life.

She told me she does it every morning and at night. She also told me that every day when she gets back from school she is happy and giving thanks because there could be accidents happening and kids disappear on the way back and forth from school, Kenya is not the safest place.

Grace is a happy, curious girl. She loves to dance and sing and her biggest dream is to become a nurse. She was born with HIV and she has been to hospitals during her whole life. She is now on a lifetime drug that keeps the HIV doormat.

Since I am a registered nurse I can relate to all of her dreams. Once upon the time it was my dream and to talk to Grace reminds me of the path I had to walk to get to my dream.

It is the best reward of all to have this conversation with a kid on the other side of the world. It makes me feel fulfilled just to know that I can touch someone’s life by a simple call. Grace is happy to have me to talk to, knowing someone is there for her, even if it is just over Skype.

Don’t miss this great opportunity to make a difference just by a simple skype call once a week.
