It makes me feel fulfilled, light and happy just to speak to Grace. I feel we are building bridges just by talking and seeing her face, knowing that she is just a Skype call away.
I learn tremendously by talking to her. Maybe you believe that being a mentor you have to perform and being wise. The real thing is that this girl is wise for her age. She shows me that she understands concepts about life, even though she hasn’t lived it yet.
We talk about drugs, boys, how her friends in the 6 grade drop out of school because they get pregnant. How they don’t listen to their parents and how they end up on the street.
I learn about Kenya, about their life which is very different from mine. I learn about what their needs and dreams. I also learn about myself and what makes me happy. It is so worth it and so easy to make a difference for a child meanwhile they make an impact on you and change you.
